Strong, confident and amazing

Take some ‘me time’ … after all, you are amazing!

What’s the difference between self confidence and self esteem?
We hear and talk about these terms in our working and personal lives but what do they really mean.

According to the Penguin Psychology Dictionary here’s the definition of both:-

Self esteem: The degree to which one values itself

Self confidence: Assuredness and sefl reliance

But which one is more important?
Well, the truth is, they both are – and they mean different things to each of us.
We all want to feel valued and self assured throughout our lives – to know that we are doing a great job, that we are a brilliant friend and that we can achieve all the things we want to in our lives

That nothing can, and will hold us back.

So take some time out and read our top tips to help you stay confident and self assured:

  1. Take time to reflect and recognise all the amazing achievements you’ve had so far – focus on the positives
  2. Don’t dwell on the negatives – it happened, you learnt from it, now move on – onwards and upwards
  3. Be good to yourself – say nice things to yourself and accept compliments with grace and a big smile
  4. Surround yourself with positive people that you bounce off of and love being around
  5. Be proud of the individual that you are and the qualities you possess – never compare yourself to others

You are a strong, confident, incredible woman – never forget it!

Mental health is as important as physical health

Mental health is as important as physical health

We spend much of our lives thinking and worrying about how we look, what we eat, how much we do or don’t exercise….. but what about our minds?

When do we give our minds a break?

When do we stop for just a few minutes to be alone with our thoughts?

To relax our minds from the world around us?

To just STOP – to be calm, to focus, to clear our heads and to REST

Was it another crazy start to the week?

Here’s our advice to keep your mind calm and collected as the week progresses.
Take time now to focus on YOU:

  • Take a breath – not just the normal one, but a slow, deep breath, over and over again that relaxes you – calming your muscles and your mind
  • Read something that inspires and energises you – something that takes you away from reality for just a few minutes everyday
  • Reclaim your lunch break – when did you last have a proper break in the middle of the day? Get some fresh air and escape – even if it’s for 15 minutes it will really help
  • Start a ‘to do’ list – write down those thoughts that are bugging you during the day and throughout the night
  • Close your eyes and picture where you will be a year from now – imagine what you will have achieved and the progress you will have made

Does your current reality reflect where you want to be in the future?

Clear your mind and focus on what really matters today to get you there

Stress Management

What are the causes of stress…

We all lead such busy lives and working in dentistry can be extremely stressful at times.
It could be any of the following that are causing you to feel stressed and anxious – financial pressures, patient complaints, relationship problems, moving house, exams, bereavement, not enough hours in the day

Here’s our top tips to help you feel calm and relaxed:

  1. Try to get enough sleep – going to bed at the same each night can really help
  2. Plan in some ‘fun’ time now for the week ahead – have something to look forward too in the coming week
  3. Get some exercise – a short walk in the fresh air can be enough. Go out for your lunch break rather than staying in your surgery all day
  4. Have some time alone/in silence everyday – just 5 minutes can make all the difference
  5. Have realistic goals and don’t punish yourself if you don’t achieve them. Keep your head up and re-focus when you need too
  6. Focus on one thing – don’t try to do much – plan out what needs doing and when
  7. Reward yourself – give yourself a pat on the back – self recognition is really important
  8. Write things down – make a note of all the things you’re thinking about and your head will feel much clearer
